On Saturday, October 21st, 2017, 7pm-9pm, I will be co-teaching a two-hour Candlelight Restorative Yoga class at the Glowing Body. My fellow teacher is Barb Phillips, a Certified Professional Coach and the author of A Balanced You for Baby Boomers, among all other sorts of awesome.
Some come and let yourself be pampered with two hours of relaxing yoga asana designed to gently heal you. With a decadent use of props and a soundtrack of relaxing music, you'll find yourself surrendering into the softer side of yoga. Bask in the candlelight!
You can pre-register online at the Glowing Body's website. The price for this workshop is $35.
Restorative Yoga: What it is
Restorative yoga is different from your normal flow class or alignment based class or even a yin yoga class. Restorative yoga is about learning how to rest the various bits and pieces of your body. Any stretches will be very mild. The goal is to let yourself into a state of relaxation in such a way that you're able to become aware of tension that you hadn't noticed before. By slowing everything down, the parts of yourself that are still bound up with stress will be more noticeable. For me, it's an amazing experience -- as I focus on the pose, I can feel the various muscles letting go, one after another, surrendering to the support of the props.
Our goal for this workshop is that you'll feel like you're being taken care of in a spa. We'll guide you through a serene set of poses, supporting you in a variety of different ways to let your mind and body calm down as the sun goes down. We'll be pampering you as much as possible, supplying you with bolsters and blankets as appropriate for your individual body. Barb has put together an amazing, soothing mix of music for us.
Who we are
You know me, otherwise you wouldn't be at this website. I've been teaching here in Knoxville for almost ten years, helping you to let go of stress and tension with Mindful Yoga and Yin Yoga classes, while at the same time becoming stronger and more flexible. This workshop is approaching the same intention from a different angle -- one I hope will prove to be incredibly illuminating for you.
Barb Phillips is a certified professional coach and author of "A Balanced You for Baby Boomers." She received advanced training in restorative yoga from Judith Hanson Lasatar at Piedmont Studio in Oakland, CA and Stephanie Keach at Asheville Yoga Center, NC. From the heart of compassion, Barb's peaceful acceptance of each student is a powerful gift.
